DAPHNE'S BIRDING TIPS & TRICKS FOR DECEMBER!

With freezing temperatures upon us, it is time to think about water! Birds need a continual water source though the winter months for drinking AND for bathing! Their feathers must be kept clean for insulating against cold weather. Keep their bird bath thawed and at the ready with a DE-ICER or a Heated Bird Bath Dish. It is so rewarding to look out, on a cold morning and see a flock of birds splashing about with steam rising up around them, knowing you are helping them immensely! ❤️

In December you may see large numbers of flocking birds, such as Finches (either House Finches, Pine Siskins or Goldfinches), Red-winged Blackbirds or Juncos. Keep all of your feeders filled to keep these birds coming! The American Goldfinch are now in their winter plumage, which is a rather drab, almost khaki color. It is not unusual to see a flock of 2 or 3 dozen! Our Finch Blend is a big draw for Goldfinches!

With additional birds about, this is an excellent time to add some extra food in the form of one of our SEED WREATHS! They are chock full of nutritious seeds and nuts. And very festive! Or check out our assorted and very cute seed characters - such as "Olive the Owl". 🦉 They are a fun addition to your yard or a great gift for any bird lover on your list!

❄️❄️ When snow blankets natural food sources, be ready to help ground feeding birds such as the Spotted Towhee, Juncos, native sparrows and the stunning Varied Thrush with a covered ground feeding tray. This allows them to find much needed food during challenging winter weather. Our Winter SuperBlend is very nutritious and high in fat. It would be an excellent bird seed for such a feeder. 👍😊

Enjoy the Birds! 🐦🐦‍⬛
