Daphne's September Birding Tips & Tricks!

⭐September brings a lot of Finch activity. House Finches typically have 2 or even 3 broods each summer, so by now there are many, many house finches gathered at the feeders!

🌻They love sunflower of all types, whether in or out of the shell, such as our No-Mess Blends. Goldfinches nest quite late in the summer, so this month they are showing up in our yards with their fledglings. Attract them to your feeder with Finch Blend.

🌾Leave dry flower heads in your garden. All seed eating birds will appreciate this and stay in your yard for natural foraging!

🪶 Birds continue to molt their feathers in September, so they tend to be less active. However, continue to offer high protein foods, such as suet and mealworms, to help them with growing fresh, new feathers! 🪶🪶

🌺You may notice more Hummingbird activity now. The Rufous Hummingbird is beginning its journey southward. The males often go as far north as Alaska in the spring. Now they are reversing their migratory path. The Anna's will be defending their territory, so you will notice more aerial battles through this month. Be sure to keep all of your nectar feeders fresh and full! And place them quite far apart.

🖤Be watching for a small flock of Black-headed Grosbeaks at your seed feeder! The juveniles will look like the mother in coloration, even if they are a male. They are stocking up on seeds now for their long trek back to Central America, where they spend the winter.
Be sure to keep your feeders full with a good seed blend!

🍒 Another bird species beginning its migration is our very beautiful Western Tanager! They'll be looking for ripe berries, as well as seedsuet and a fresh water source. 💧

🥜Lastly, the Steller's Jay is starting its early fall caching routine. You will notice a definite uptick in peanut consumption - one of their favorites for tucking away for winter!🥜🥜🥜

🥰Enjoy the Birds!
